The federal government recently unveiled its bold new vision stimulating the hydrogen industry in Australia. Following this, the Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) applauded the significant new measures.

Dr Fiona Simon, the CEO of the AHC, was “delighted to see [the] significant investment required to match the ambition and opportunity of the Australian hydrogen industry…”

These measures include:

An expansion to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Hydrogen Headstart program, of which Murchison Green Hydrogen is one of six shortlisted candidates

  • $6.7 billion for a Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive; $1.7 billion to support a Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund
  • $1.9 billion in funding to revitalise ARENA’s ability to bring new renewable energy technologies to market
  • $17.1 million being invested into delivery of the 2024 National Hydrogen Strategy.

The federal government’s vision and announcement underscores the importance of projects like Murchison Green Hydrogen. Our project will be an instrumental step in helping Australia realise its hydrogen potential and turn our country into a global hub for hydrogen production.
