Murchison Green Hydrogen attends the 107th Northampton Show

Murchison Green Hydrogen was pleased to sponsor and attend the 107th Northampton Show on 13 September 2025.

The show offered an opportunity for the local community to engage with the Project team, hear about Project updates and share their interests and questions.

Despite the intermittent rain, the team spoke with over 100 locals from the Mid West, including residents from Kalbarri, Northampton, Geraldton and Chapman Valley.

What we heard from the community

Show attendees were interested in many aspects of the Project, including its design, processes and development.

Some areas of particular interest noted by our team included:

Employment and Business Opportunities

Many attendees expressed interest in the types of jobs and business opportunities the Project will bring.

The Project’s employment and career opportunities will enable the younger generation to stay, live and work in the community. The significant investment in the region will help stimulate economic growth and create more opportunities for businesses and residents alike.

We recommend all interested businesses express their interest through our Industry Capability Network (ICN) Gateway and follow us on LinkedIn where we will be posting additional future opportunities to work on the Project.

Potential Regional Benefits

Many local residents were interested in the significant benefits sharing opportunities between the Project and the local community. Conversations highlighted the need for investment in communal infrastructure and services, such as a multi-purpose community centre and improved health care facilities.

The Project is currently co-designing a Community Benefits Scheme with community and stakeholders, as it is important to Murchison Green Hydrogen that we share the benefits with those communities impacted by the Project and contribute to long-term, positive changes in the region.

Environmental Studies and Approvals Process

Show attendees were interested in the environmental impact of the Project, particularly regarding studies on whales (despite there being no offshore wind turbines on the Project), noise, odour and visual impacts. There was significant discussion around the environmental studies and surveys done to date as well as the environmental approval pathway.

All baseline environmental surveys for the project have been completed. These include terrestrial environmental studies—such as flora, fauna, vegetation, noise, air quality and surface water—and marine environmental studies—such as benthic communities and habitats, marine fauna, local wave climate and any impacts associated with brine discharge.

We are now in the process of refining elements of the Project to avoid or minimise environmental impacts. Remaining impacts will be outlined in our Environmental Review Document (ERD), which will be available for public comment in 2026 and will be assessed for environmental approval by the Environmental Protection Agency and State and Federal Ministers for Environment in 2026.

Future of Hydrogen

A number of local residents were interested in discussing the implications of the broader slow-down of the green hydrogen industry, as well as geopolitical shifts in the renewable energy space, on the Project.

The Project is being developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a global leader in renewable energy investments. While we acknowledge delays in the green ammonia offtake market, demand for hydrogen and ammonia remains strong across Asian and Europe, driven by the need to decarbonise sectors such as shipping, power generation and steel manufacturing. CIP remains confident in the future of the green hydrogen and ammonia markets and continues to engage positively with strategic offtake partners in Asia and beyond in relation to the Murchison Project.

Thank you to the Northampton District Agricultural Society for the opportunity and to everyone who attended the Show and engaged with our team.
