Murchison Green Hydrogen joins the Australian Government’s Front Door program

We are proud to announce the Australian Government has selected the Murchison Green Hydrogen Project for its Front Door pilot program.

Murchison Green Hydrogen Front Door Program

What is the Front Door?

The Front Door sits within the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (having formerly sat in the Department of the Treasury up until 1 July 2026) and will make it easier for developers of selected major projects a faster way to navigate their regulatory requirements and identify potential government financing opportunities.

It is designed to unlock Australia’s potential for significant, transformational projects and generate benefits for Australia.

How does the Front Door work?

The initiative provides Murchison Green Hydrogen with a central contact point to facilitate connections across various government departments.

The Treasury initially set up a dedicated team, which is responsible for implementing the initiative and helping to provide dedicated support to help selected projects navigate regulatory requirements, make connections with relevant government agencies, regulators and identify suitable government financing opportunities.

The change from the program sitting in the Treasury to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources will see the Investor Front Door become the Commonwealth Government’s single point of entry for projects seeking investment and regulatory facilitation services. The decision was made to combine the major project facilitation agency and project facilitation services of the Net Zero Economy Agency into the Investor Front Door, to offer a more consolidated and streamlined service to major and significant projects that are aligned with the Future Made in Australia agenda.

Australia has a strong track record of attracting investment and the Investor Front Door builds on this, positioning Australia as a competitive and attractive destination for global investment and promoting local economic growth.

The Front Door does not change the Project’s approval requirements, make regulatory or investment decisions, or reduce regulatory standards.

Why has Murchison Green Hydrogen been included in the Front Door?

The Murchison Green Hydrogen Project is a flagship initiative in Australia’s renewable energy landscape, and the most advanced large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project in Australia. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, a global leader in energy infrastructure investment, is developing Murchison Green Hydrogen.

The Project has been chosen to participate in the pilot phase of the Investor Front Door initiative. The project is expected to generate new export opportunities to Asian and European markets, and is aligned with national objectives, including:

  • Decarbonisation
  • Sovereign capability and export revenue
  • Regional economic development.

In addition to its inclusion in the Front Door initiative, the Project has been recognised previously for its national and state significance as:

  • A recipient of Major Project Status by the Australian Government;
  • A recipient of Lead Agency Status by the Western Australian Government; and
  • A recipient of $814 million production credit funding through the Australian Government’s Hydrogen Headstart program.
