MGH begins the Early Contractor Involvement process

The Murchison Green Hydrogen (MGH) Project closed out the pre-Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies in late 2024.

Prior to commencing FEED phase of the Project in 2026, MGH will be completing an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process. This process will see the Project engaging with suitable Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors and selecting contractors to engage in refining the current design to reduce uncertainties around the design and construction methodologies.

What is the purpose of the ECI process?

The ECI will be a competitive process with at least two contractors working in parallel with the goal being to deliver an optimised design for each of the main Project work packages.

By the end of this process, a single contractor will then be selected to take each work package into the FEED phase of the Project.
To this end, the ECI process has three main objectives:

Objective 1: Value Enhancement

MGH is seeking input on the current Project concept and construction philosophy to enhance the overall value of the project through minimisation of uncertainties, reduced capital or operational expenditure (CAPEX or OPEX) or enhanced plant availability. The Project will be seeking lessons learned from contractors experienced in similar projects in order to achieve this.

Objective 2: Cost Certainty

Through the MGH team’s early engagement with the potential EPC contractors, the Project will be seeking certainty in both the cost and timeline of construction of the Project ahead of commencing the FEED phase.

Objective 3: Contractor Selection

MGH is seeking to achieve increased confidence in the selection of contractors to complete FEED for the Project and ultimately to undertake the EPC phase. This will be achieved through ongoing interaction with the potential contractors during the ECI process.

What is the expected timeline on ECI?

The ECI tender process has commenced and is ongoing. The execution of the ECI process is scheduled to take place throughout 2025.
